ISO/TS 16949:2009 - Quality Management
Systems -- Particular requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2008 for automotive
production and relevant service part organizations This Technical Specification, in conjunction with ISO 9001:2008, defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products. This Technical Specification is applicable to sites of the organization where customer-specified parts, for production and/or service, are manufactured. Supporting functions, whether on-site or remote (such as design centres, corporate headquarters and distribution centres), form part of the site audit as they support the site, but cannot obtain stand-alone certification to this Technical Specification. |
||
This Technical Specification can be applied throughout the automotive supply chain. The reason
for the creation of ISO/TS 16949 was to harmonize the North American automotive standard
QS-9000 with the European automotive (AVSQ: Italy, EAQF: France and VDA 6.1: Germany)
requirements. The responsible group governing the administration and control of the standard,
including the qualification requirements for the Registrars and Auditors is the IATF
(International Automotive Task Force) – Which is a joint body formed by the US and European
automakers. ISO/TS 16949 will bring a common automotive scheme for certification bodies that will be recognized by all IATF members. |

Benefits of getting certified for ISO/TS 16949 : As the Automotive Industry becomes increasingly international, the need has arisen for one
accepted Management System. The goal of ISO/TS 16949 is to create a harmonized standard that
incorporates existing Automotive Quality Systems requirements into the global economy.
Organizations that gain approval to this standard eliminate the need for multiple
certifications.
