Key Updates for Enhancing ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems

Understand the Amendment :

The amendment to ISO 9001:2015 primarily affects two clauses:

• Clause 4.1:
  Organizations must now determine whether climate change is a relevant issue that affects their ability to achieve intended results.

• Clause 4.2:
  Organizations should consider the climate change-related needs and expectations of relevant interested parties, such as customers, regulatory bodies, and the community​

Conduct a Climate Change Relevance Assessment :

To meet the requirements of Clause 4.1, organizations must evaluate how climate change may affect their operations. This includes both direct and indirect impacts:

• CDirect Impacts:
  Changes in weather patterns, rising temperatures, and natural disasters that could affect operations, supply chains, or infrastructure..

• Indirect Impacts:
  Regulatory changes, shifts in customer preferences toward sustainable practices, and technological advancements related to sustainability

Action Steps:

• Update your risk management process to include climate change as an external factor.

• Use a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to identify how climate change could impact your organization’s goals.

• Document these considerations in your management review meetings

Engage with Relevant Interested Parties :

According to Clause 4.2, implementers must engage with interested parties and understand their climate-related expectations. This can include stakeholders such as:

• Customers:
  Many customers are now demanding greener products and sustainable business practices.

• Regulatory Bodies:
  Compliance with environmental regulations may become more stringent.

• Investors and Partners:
  Increasingly, investors prefer companies with strong sustainability credentials

Action Steps:
